How it works.

The QR

The till shows the total as a QR.

The confirmation

You scan it with the HOP app and confirm with your face or fingerprint.

The handover

The francs move from the payer’s HOP account to the shop’s, and the till receives the confirmation.

The top-up

The HOP account tops itself up with a direct debit from your bank account below the threshold you choose.

For merchants: 0.8% of takings.

Serviyo till

At launch. HOP built in from day one: the QR with the total appears on the customer-facing screen.

HOP Business app

After launch. A phone and a fixed QR sticker at the counter: the customer scans, the money arrives.

Open API

After launch. For other tills: the same calls Serviyo uses, with signed notifications for every payment.

Where the money sits.

In a separate account

Customers’ money sits in a separate account at a Swiss partner bank, distinct from HOP’s own accounts. Every day the sum of the HOP accounts is checked against the bank balance, to the cent.

In Switzerland

The servers are in Switzerland, in Geneva and Zurich. The key that signs payments stays in the phone’s secure chip.
